Description:  Great and important exercise for the glutes and lower back. Putting a nickel (5lb) plate under the heels will help with your balance if needed. Add weight as you progress.

OldeButGoode I understand what you are saying but people who have tried "something" under their heels like the difference in balance feel.

OldeButGoode Jill, Try just the barbell or light dumbbells when squating, plus try using a 5 lb plate under your heels for balance.

davegleason Having to put a plate under the heels can mean a lack of mobility (ankles) or flexibility (calf muscles). This can be helped by using foam roller and introducing ankle mobility exercises to the warm up.

jillybean This is my least favorite exercise to do. Any suggestions to make it more enjoyable or is it just one of those things you have to suck up and just do?
